Introduction
I did say it was unprecedented times. A new concept has been introduced to help local restaurants stay open and afloat. It is called #TakeOutWednesday. We are only happy to comply.
History
Harvey’s was founded and opened its first location on Yonge Street in Richmond Hill in 1959. Its owners originally were going to name it Henry’s Hamburgers when they learned John Harvey Motors car dealership was about to close and its very large sign that just said Harvey’s was going to be available. Harvey’s was born. Harvey’s now has locations in every province and it is the 2nd largest Canadian established restaurant in Canada behind only Tim Hortons. It also lays claim to being the 4th largest burger chain in Canada. As you will see its Canadian heritage is shining through right now as we speak. Yes we’re talking about the use of the hockey stick.
The Facts
We do love burgers so we decided to go to one of our local favorites, Harvey’s. So let’s get all the facts out of the way. The location we chose is near us in Scarborough at 2555 Victoria Park Avenue. It is one one of the locations that is in combination with Swiss Chalet. I am sure we will have a blog about Swiss Chalet in the near future too. This location is easy to get into and from start to finish was only 11 minutes. Very important to us and probably you too, they did get our order completely correct.
The Fun
Harvey’s is distinctly Canadian and so in this day of social distancing, at the drive thru window, how do they pass you a debit machine? On a hockey stick of course! Tap and away we go. So why do we go to Harvey’s. Well one is we love burgers and two is they have something called “frings” What are frings? You probably guessed, half fries and half onion rings. We like both so it sure works for us. Why don’t more places do this?
One of the other favorite qualities that we like about Harvey’s is the ability to customize your burgers. There are so many delicious choices to pick from. Everything is always very fresh!
Will we(and our stomachs) be going back to see that hockey stick again? You better believe it!
