Introduction

Finally our first blog about an actual drive thru. This is Canada so what else would it be about but coffee? Let’s face it, if you return to Canada from visiting another country, the first thing you do after getting your luggage is visit a certain coffee place. Right ? We are a strange breed.

There are, I think, really two major players here when it comes to coffee in this area. Today I am going to talk about Starbucks but don’t worry it won’t be long and we will be talk about Tim Horton’s too. We like both our Tim’s and our Starbucks coffees.

History

Starbucks originated in Seattle in 1971 with its first store at Pike Place Market. We have actually been to that location. That is a story all in itself. If you are ever in Seattle we highly recommend you take the time to check it out as well as the market. It is an experience you will certainly enjoy. In 1987 Starbucks opened its first locations outside of Seattle in Vancouver, BC and in Chicago. It just expanded from there. Although a relatively young company it has commanded a lot of brand loyalty. We are among those loyal followers.

The Facts

Remember these are unprecedented times and Starbucks are only open via the drive thru except for some locations directly inside supermarkets. Let’s get the facts out of the way. We like the North York location at 861 York Mills Road. We have been to several and this one has more of the usual menu items available than others. The wait time is very short too. Today was 8 minutes. It is deceiving as the line extended out on to the road. They have a little sign out , not to block traffic, and most seem to be pretty good about it. Last fact, they have gotten our order right every time we have been there.

The Fun

What makes it all happen

Now let us get to the fun stuff. At Starbucks when I get asked for my name I always say DJ. Let me just say my coffee was delicious but as I read the label on the cup it said Stephen. To be honest, you can call me Stephen or just about anything as long as my coffee tastes good I’m OK with it. Correction, I did have somebody, not Starbucks, once spell my name Dog so let’s say I’m OK with it in most cases. I have seen others, again not Starbucks, with unusual spellings of my name like Duck, Dug and even Dung. I am not such a big fan of that last one.

Again let me say these are unprecedented times and all staff I could see at the drive thru window were wearing masks and gloves. One had a scarf wrapped around their face and reminded me of somebody out of western saloon but let me just say this location has the friendliest people.

I almost forgot the most important thing. What did we have? All three are highly recommended by the way. I always have a Mocha. Ruth calls me boring, stick in the mud, you get the idea. What can I say? I like Mochas! Ruth had Nitro Brew with Sweet Cream. Ruth describes her drink with just one word, “orgasmic”! Lee is into frappuccinos and caramel big time. He had a Caramel Ribbon Crunch Frappuccino. In his words “SuperFrappulistic”!

We will definitely be going back to this Starbucks again and we will definitely be back with more experiences for you soon.

Until the next adventure.
