Introduction

Unionville
Main Street in Unionville, ON

Takeout Wednesday(aka National Takeout Day) has arrived again. This time our adventure has brought us to the Unionville area of Markham, ON.

We our doing takeout from a pub named the Unionville Arms.

Ruth has been here previously with a friend and friends and family of Ruth’s have been here many times.

All have commented on how good the food is.

This is the first visit here for Lee and I.

There is a long an interesting history to where the Unionville Arms is located so let us get to it.

History

On our way to the Unionville Arms

Dating back to 1870 the location was a blacksmith shop. In 1912 a local family built a car dealership and auto repair garage at the location.

Later this became a playhouse and movie theatre and then in 1989 the garage building became the Unionville Arms.

It quickly became a popular meeting place with a loyal customer base and a very community like feel. It has a reputation for great food and service as well as giving back to the community.

On November 30, 2008 the Unionville Arms unfortunately was destroyed in a fire.

Fortunately it was rebuilt and reopened and it’s popularity picked up where it left off.

Next up, the facts.

The Facts

The Unionville Arms full name is actually Unionville Arms Pub & Grill. It is located at 189 Main Street in Unionville, ON.

It is normally an eat in pub and restaurant, as mentioned earlier, with a very loyal following.

Currently, like other restaurants, they are doing takeout. It is a neat setup which worked out great with it being sunny and warmer. When we arrived we saw the sign with instructions to come to the side patio.

There is a counter where you can place your order, pay and pickup. I believe you can phone in your order ahead too. When we arrived at the counter we immediately were greeted with a friendly smile. The staff were very friendly. We placed our order and then went for a walk around Unionville. It was great weather and it is a great place to go for a walk. It has a very village like atmosphere. We enjoyed our walk and returned after about 20 minutes to the counter.

After a short wait our food was up. It came very nicely packaged in a reusable bag. We also got a bottle of California Chardonnay to go along with our dinner.

I did not verify all the possible payment methods but we paid by debit.

All in all it was a pleasant drive, a pleasant walk and a very pleasant experience.

Ok so let us get to the fun!

The Fun

Klondike Burger

So I will just start off by saying the word Ruth used to describe the ride home without touching the food, “TORTURE!”. If they had not done such a good job of packing the food I am sure it would not have made it home untouched. Once again the aroma in the mini van was intoxicating.

After unpacking the food and fighting off Ruth and Lee to get a few photos(my self restraint was challenged too) we all dove into dinner.

Ruth and i shared the Cubano and Pulled Pork sandwiches as well as the onion rings and sweet potato fries. Lee decided to go with the Klondike Burger.

Lee remarked that the burger was delicious and he said “I ate it all!”. I don’t know when that is not the case but it is still a great compliment. Actually Ruth and I each took a bite of the burger and Lee got onion rings in exchange. The burger definitely tasted fresh, not frozen. You can taste the difference.

Ruth words were “So good and I am full!”. It was all delicious but what stood out to me the most was the Pulled Pork sandwich. This is one of those times I will use the word “orgasmic”. The taste was incredible.

I am sure we will go back again if for no other reason but to get another Pulled Pork sandwich!
