Introduction
Today we are changing things up because it is Mother’s Day. Lee and I are making Sliders and Southwest Salad for Mother’s Day Dinner and Ruth is getting to relax. Lee really wants to do something special for his Mom!
History
Mother’s day is celebrated in over 40 countries now but it has its roots in North America.
According to CBC Archives the first Mother’s day was organized by a school teacher in West Virginia named Anna Jarvis in honour of her late mother. She decorated her church with her mom’s favourite flowers, white carnations.
Anna Jarvis campaigned to local business people and politicians to formally recognize this day and by 1911 many US states and Canadian provinces recognized Mother’s Day on the 2nd Sunday of May.
In 1914 Mother’s Day was proclaimed nationally in the the US and Mother’s Day was officially born.
Now we will get to how we celebrated Mother’s Day.
The Facts
As I mentioned Lee really wanted to do something special for his Mom on Mother’s Day.
He was very passionate about it from doing the planning, to helping shop for the ingredients and being involved in the preparation as you can see.
I can’t say I blame him for loving his Mom so. Maybe I am partial or bias but as I see it Lee could not have a more wonderful Mom.
Everyday Ruth lives what is my Mom’s legacy and what will be her own Mom’s legacy and that is to be an inspiration on how to make a family wonderful!
Now that we have all the mushy stuff out of the way let us get onto the fun.
The Fun
Making Sliders and Southwest Salad is an involved process, especially when documenting it all on camera.
The video above is actually Take 2. If you want to see Take 1 (aka The Blooper Reel) comment below requesting it and I will upload it to YouTube and provide a reply with the Link.
I will just say there is a reason why we added extra cheese!
Lee was all in mixing ingredients(and throwing them in the air sometimes too, accidentally of course) as well as doing the preparation. Did I say you might want to comment and request the Blooper Reel?
He just dove right in. He even sliced onions. You have to give him credit for all the effort he put in to make Mother’s Day Special!
Ruth words were “Yummy!” and “I feel so loved!”.
It was a very special day and I hope everyone else’s Mother’s Day was just as special.
